Food Shock!

                                                              Hello, My Cheap Cheetah Family

So, how's July treating you? Here in New York, it's hot! Are you experiencing food shock like I'm experiencing here in New York? What I mean is that I went food shopping yesterday, and I swear the price jumped by $30 more than just a week ago. Last week I spent $150 on three bags of groceries, I kid you not, the same three bags cost me $180 yesterday. I swear food prices go up more than the stock market does. What do you think? How are you keeping your food bills low?  Here's what I'm doing. I am eating a lot of cold cereal, store brand. If I can find a pack of cheap meat, which is rare in my supermarkets. I buy it and separate the pieces so I can get a least two meals from it. Have you seen the price of steak? I saw a steak for $35. Really food prices are crazy. I try and shop at places like Aldi's and Dollar Tree. I only buy certain things out places like Dollar Tree. I don't trust some of the food items there.

I beg that's right, beg my neighbor for fresh veggies that he has growing in his garden since he's planted a lot of stuff. He always sends me over whatever he plants when it's ready.  I try not to waste anything that I had to spend money on, especially food. I had noticed while food shopping that people are only buying what they need. No extras, and they are using every discount they could think of to lower the price of food. Which is crazy. why can't we have the 60& 70's food prices?

Got Me to Thinking

                                                 Hello, My Cheap Cheetah Family

I need to quit watching so many YouTube videos about living on social security alone and how a lot of older people are living on just that. Watching those videos scared me. Had me thinking, can I live on just my social security check? The answer is heck NO!  I can't even live on my pension and social security; I'm still about $200 short, and that's not including food and miscellaneous. expenses.

So I ask you, can you live on social security alone? If not, then what can we do? First, I see a lot of seniors getting part-time jobs. Just look at your Walmart, supermarkets, and delivery service companies. Even YouTube videos, anything to make a couple of extra dollars to supplement their small income.

I also notice that people are taking advantage of free offers that are given out, where it's as a bank offering a better interest rate, your car or home insurance offering better rates if you do certain things, and such. I also notice that people have cut back on a few things, especially vacations.  Now it seems like vacations are really for the people with extra income, and that's not too many nowadays. Inflation increasing by the minute, and people are not being able to afford their basic needs. Vacations are the first to go along with any luxuries that are too expensive. Heck, I was thinking about getting rid of one of my cars because of the money I have to pay for gas.

I was watching a program where food pantries are running out of food because of the increase in families not making enough to cover their basic bills.   It's getting scary out there, family. So, all I say to you is this. Watch your money, look for sales, and if you have to get a second job or do something online to bring in a bit of extra income. I'm right along with you, family, on this. I'm always looking for ways to supplement my small income. I got medical bills that require me to pay a monthly deductible of about an extra $60 out of my pocket. Oh, let me tell you. collecting plastic bottles is now a big business I saw a guy in my neighborhood with three women going around collecting plastic bottles and cans out of people's garbage cans on recycling days. He had a truck with dozens of giant plastic bags full of plastic bottles in them. You need to do what you have to do to make your money stretch.

I Use To...

                                                          Hello, My Cheap Cheetah Family

Happy July. So, are we saving money this month? I'll be honest, I'm trying, but the stores won't let me save. I went to my favorite store for discounts, J.C. Penney. They had tons of clothing on their clearance rack. They even had the nerve to say all pink tickets are $3.  I am talking at least 8-10 full racks of clothes from plus size women down to the tiny sizes for women, like size 0. Anyway, I went through the racks thinking of the summer stuff. I could get it cheap because I'm going on vacation soon. You know I didn't find one pink ticket for a $3 piece of clothing, right?  I search through a bunch of discounted clothing racks, which also shows me that whoever's buying for J.C. Penny is buying too much stuff that people don't want. did I forget to mention they also had walls full of dresses and sweaters, and stuff? Anyway, I went through the clothes and the prices, no lie, for the cheapest items were $9.99 and up to $35.oo Is it me, that's not what I considered a clearance.  For me, clearance is price points like $5.99-$20, and the higher price is for the really good stuff.

Needless to say, I was disappointed in the prices. I walked over to the regular price section of clothing. They had the nerve to charge 35-60 for a pair of pants or a coordinating set. J.C. Penny is losing its mind thinking it's Macy's. Guess a cheap cheetah like me will head to Walmart, which is cheaper, and mix and match what I have in my closet for my upcoming vacation. Between food prices, clothing, repairs, and basic bills, a cheapskate can't get a break. My suggestion is thrift stores or Walmart for cheaper clothing, but be warned, the thrift stores in my area have increased their prices on just about everything.
