I Suck

Hello Family how are you today?

Well as you know there is only 2 days left  before the first month of the new year is over. I went over my  money calendar today. All I can say is I suck when it came  to my money challenges which was save or make a dollar a day and use coupons to save $$. I know  we are all human and we don't get it right the first time and maybe not even the second time. That's why we keep trying until we get it right and we are comfortable with it but….It still sucks to see that you  spend more then you wanted to for the first month of the new year. For example I didn't mean to do it but I spent over $100 on playing stupid lotto. I thought I could win it ( LOL)
I spend over $80 on lunches out and junk food. What was I thinking . I was not thinking I was being lazy when it came to cooking and I was also feeding my sweet addiction.
But I did manage to get some paid work this month and my no spending days which I never knew I was doing was pretty good.
So how are your money or life challenges going. I hope better then mine because Mine suck

Health Insurance

Hello Family How Are you today?

Well today I am talking about Health Insurance and the expense of it all. Me being a cheapskate and looking into health insurance is a horror movie waiting to be produce. Thank god I don't need it now I am on my partners insurance but when I do the amount that they are quoting for basic health insurance is crazy. For a single person I have been quoted between $450-900 a month for the basic health plan. This is with a deductible of $7000. first. Needless to say this is not including a dental plan which is needed. So what is a frugal cheapskate to do when health care is so expensive?

Some say look in to the Affordable  Care Act plans that the government offers. I have done that and based upon your family size and income. For me the amount that I have to pay is not all that cheap and some of the insurance companies in the plan want you to jump through a lot of hoops before they cover you. To some it's really not that affordable and you have to read the find print and see what the individual  plan covers.

Try and stay with your employers health care plan as long as possible. You might pay a deductible or co payments but trust me it's cheaper then paying for your health care without the group rate that your employer is receiving.

Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) and Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSAs) are tools designed to manage spending  surrounding your healthcare needs. Both of these tools offer an opportunity to save money in anticipation of future medical expenses,

When you are looking for a health care plan don't forget to shop around, make sure you know what kind of plan you need for yourself and your family.

You can also look for an health insurance agent that will help you through the maze of crazy health plans that won't hurt a cheapskate pocket to much.

When it comes to health insurance sometimes being a cheapskate is not the best ideas, especially when it comes to your health. But I do say shop around and try and get the best bank for your buck. I know I am.

Credit Cards & Cheapskates

Hello Family How Are You Today?

Credit Cards and the Cheapskate

I find them wonderfully useful, provided you religiously pay the balance in full promptly every month.

I've had a card for more than five years. They haven't made a cent off me yet. I get a monthly accounting of all my grocery purchases and utility bills (1% cash back on both), so I can use my card statements to track those budget items.
This is my partner not me. He believes that you can use credit cards as long as you pay the bill in full when you get it. I will admit when I see our credit card statement it helps me keep track of our  spending. I can see on a monthly basis how much we spend on food, drugs and other things. This way I know what to cut back on in the coming months.

But me I tell people it's against my religion to use credit cards which it is. The  religion of being debt free. I have not  personally used a credit car in over 10 years. Now I will use my debit card if I need to but that is rare. I feel that with the high interest and even with some credit card charging you to use their services it's not worth it to me. So I don't use them.
Some people use them for the cashback rewards that credit cards offer when you use them. But they are also paying  the transaction fees for the use of that service. So is the credit card company really giving you anything that your not already paying for?

Some people say that having a credit card will help your build your credit. I say  their are other ways to do that. One if  take a small bank loan and pay it back isn't that credit building. Why do we need a credit history anyway? Ok if you need to buy a car or a home what else would we need a credit history for? If your buying a car then find a used one in good condition and pay cash for it. For a home purchase ok you might need the credit history. But try to find other ways to get the house you want with out the credit history that the banks require.  Just my thoughts.

What do you think?
