Children & Money

Hello Family How Are You Today?

Teaching kids How To Save $$

Are you teaching your children how to save money? Here are some suggestion on how to teach your children to save money and make it fun in the process.

1 Show them how to cook something they like from scratch. Take them food shopping , pick the ingredients that you will need  with a planned budget in mind.

  2. Help them go through their closets and pull out a couple things that they no longer need or want. Bag these things up and donate them. Also you might want to leave out something that they have so that you can teach them to sew. Maybe like a blouse or sweater. You can show them how to sew on button and make things or repair them with sewing .

 3. If you give your children allowance encourage them to save some, spend some and donate some. Remember they get allowance when they do household chores. Show them when you work you get paid.

4 Make an adventure out of going thrift store shopping. They are given a set amount and they can buy what they want within the amount that they were given.  This encourages your children that not all name brand clothing have to come from high end stores. Show them how much they can save if they had purchased that same outfit in a retail store.

5. Show them how to make things to give for gifts instead of always buying retail. I remember when I was about 12 years old I made bracelets for my friends for the holidays. When I gave it to them they looked at me funny, but they were nice bracelets and I was proud of them.

 6. Sit with your children and  make a list of the  things they need versus the things they want. Show them how to use coupons and save for the things they want.

 7. Take them  to  yard sales, Show your children what they can get for pennies on the dollar . If they just wait. I have seen some great name brand items, toys still in the packages and a whole lot of other things that were dirt cheap.

8. Teach your children about trade offs in the choices that you make. Share with them the importance of saving and not getting everything that you want right away.

9. Show them how to respect their money and have good money habits. But first it starts with you.
