Volunteering Cheap/ Frugal & Fun
Volunteering is Cheap/Frugal And Fun......
And It Makes You Feel Good........
I'm wondering how many of you do volunteer work, and reap tangible benefits from it? Understanding that most of the time we volunteer to
do these things it's because we want to help, and it makes us feel good.
benefits= Entry to events, free food, good connections, fun
relationships, free education + mileage reimbursement of $.50 from many
agencies, (I drive a $35 car that gets 50 mpg on free fryer grease )
- Master Gardener = good food, education, and fun (+ free entry to events)
- SCORE = lots of good connections and education, keeping current with business and finance
- Co-op Education = free training and great mileage benefit, fun folks (and different ones too )
- Senior Care = free food and good stories
- Public School reading / mentoring = filling a vital need in youth
- ushering = pick your venue (I do Chamber / baroque / musicals / science presentations / symphony)
- Library = free source of doing research and book work
- Music = lots of fun and venues
- Home school presentations = Arts, Crafts, Woodworking, quilting, science & really inquisitive and friendly kids
- Auto Care for needy (church provides to community), = good way to keep up with newer cars (since I drive beaters) + get some use out of lifetime accumulation of tools.
- Habitat for Humanity = sense of accomplishment and sore muscles
- Work at Camps = free food / lodging and fun projects that you don't have to do perfect.
- Relocating Sailboats = free 'vacation' (kind of...)

Scary Stuff
Last night I was watching videos about the working poor. The people who live on minimum wage salaries or just above it. It was scary and sad to me. I was also watching stories about the vanishing middle class A lot of the people that you would not think that are middle class are now collecting food stamps and relaying on food panties to feed their family. There is no middle class anymore. It's either you have money or your struggling. A lot of the middle class are one paycheck away from being homeless. Can I tell you I got scared. Why because that could be me. I am not working right now because my work relocated way to far for me to travel and it was expensive to get to work everyday. I also have heath issues that prevented me from going to work everyday. Like I use to,but if I am not careful with my finances this could be me and it frightens the heck out of me. So what scares you the most when it comes to your finances?.

Cheap Vacations ( Personal Note)
This is more on a personal note for you today. I had a chance to visit Atlantic City boardwalk for a mini vacation. The casinos are there, the sun and water. The gambling is there Oh sorry I said that already.....
I was given a nice offer from Caesars hotel in Atlantic city(NJ) for a 3 night stay for about $83. That was all that Caesars in AC Offered me. But what I got was a 3 night stay for $20 bucks, a free buffet for two it would have cost us $80 bucks if I had paid for it and free parking. Their paid parking is now $25. I tell you all this because it pays to complain if your spending your money and your not happy with the service that you receive. First of all my Caesars room was dark and dingy not what I am use to. The walk to the elevators from my room was about a half a mile I kid you not. My room had frosted glass meaning no view at all. So I complained and did it very loudly and they offered me the above stuff.
We all know that if you complain you get stuff if your not happy and your paying your hard earned money complain. What can it hurt it's your money!

Money Motivation
Why does money motivate you
personally?
Because I have a certain lifestyle I want to live. And you
need money to live that lifestyle.
Money is a medium of exchange or tool to get what you want.
If I want a roof over my head, and to be able to eat out, or travel -- or do or buy whatever -- I need money to do that. I choose to work for my money. Others commit crimes or sell themselves to get it. And technically, I'm selling MYself to get it. It's just at a company I work for 8 hours a day...trading my time, skill, and knowledge for a pay check, so I can pay for the things and experiences I want ,and save and invest, and plan for retirement. All the things one can do with money

enough saved up to not have to lower my standard of living.
Do you agree or disagree with this?

The Gambler - Fuck You Money!
Hey Family. Watch this part of the Gambler. He is so right we all need FU Money. The way John Goodman tell it is priceless and I agree. I love the way he tells the gambler what's important and the lesson that he wants him to learn from it. Enjoy!!!

Crazy Movie
First off Happy Mothers Day!. Today I just wanted to share something Crazy with you. I watched this Movie the Wolf Of Wall Street. It's about this guy who had a gift when he spoke. So much so that when he spoke people would do what he wanted. He had a speaking gift. He was selling buying pennies stocks that was really worthless to people and making a lot of money doing it. He got his friend together and they were all dumb as a brick, they formed a company and made millions. The reason I am telling you this is that the movie was funny and a lesson was leaned. (Warning this movie has a lot of sex and drugs in it). But back to my point I leaned from watching this picture that if you have the gift of gab and you can memorize your audience they will do anything for you.
That is what this guy had a gift and he used that gift to grab people and make them do what he wanted them to do. It was beautiful. He also showed them that he was just like them A jackass and they loved it.
There was also so much excess spending in this money it was not even funny. Well yes it was funny a times. This guy went way overboard in everything that he did. But there were lessons to learn. If you get a chance watch the movies you will see what I am talking about. Good Movie and Crazy......

Old Fashion Savings
Do you save the "old fashioned way"?
I'm trying to set aside some money here and there to get a
ps3. Whenever i get paid i usually set aside like $30 and put it in a jar until
I have enough. Anyone else save for things like electronics, vacations,
etc.like this instead of putting it in a bank?
I save that way for my baby son. I made him a little piggy
bank out of one of his formula cans. I put all my
loose change in it and when it gets enough to buy a share of Vanguard Total Stock
Market Index I match it, cash it in and get him the shares in a account I've set up for
him.
Someone sent me this thought my email a couple of days again and it got me to thinking about ways that you can save the old fashion way. I mean like our grandparents did by putting their money under their mattress and in mason jars and hiding it in the house somewhere. That's the old fashion way I am talking about.
Personally for me I just purchase a trash can bank at my local 99 cent store and when I get unexpected money in the form of lottery wins, repayment of loans, found money in coat pockets and such I just put the money in my trash can bank. I save money like that for 6 months to 1 year and then I use the money for either investing or vacation. So my question to you is how do you save the old fashion way?
