This is far and few between, but I will take it. I went to the supermarket yesterday and found 69 cents a pound family packs of chicken. It was 2 per person. It cost about $5-6 per pack. You know I got 2 big packets. That chicken will last me for 2-3 months if not more. I love a meat sale. Which as I mentioned before they are far and few between.

 Buying gift cards for the holidays be careful   If you purchase a visa gift card or an Amex they will charge you a $5.95 service fee plus the price of the gift card. I find it's cheaper to purchase the stores gifts. There are no extra fees attached to them.  Also, I found out gift cards now come in $20-$500 dominations. What happen to the $10 gift cards. The only gift cards I have seen for $10 was a target store one.

So, how's your holiday so far? Me I am not shopping just sending holiday cards and a few gift cards that's it.

I am not going to lie I fell hard off the Cheap Cheetah Wagon because I was dealing with medical issues. But it's nice to say I am back and ready for 2023. I might not go as hard as I want to being a cheap cheetah/frugal person for the new year. I realize life is too short not to enjoy it. But I will be saving money and showing you how I am doing it.

Right now my focus is on cleaning out a lot of inventory that I have from doing toy shows and flea markets. Which I stop doing once Covid-19 hit. Now it's just a matter of selling off the inventory and getting close to the money I put into it back.

Also I am looking for inexpensive medical insurance so that I have a secondary insurance policy. I have medical issues that require a second medical policy. But other than that, it's time to be cheap cheetah again. Wish me luck.

So how's the money thing going with you? For me not so good. Here's why I have been sick and dealing with medical insurance and hospitals are no fun. Make sure you know what's cover when it comes to your medical insurance and hospital bills. Good thing is that the hospital will fight for you when it comes to your insurance company if you want them to. One thing to think about that's scary when it comes to getting sick are the bills!!!

Also have you see how much they are charging for a bag of candy for Halloween it was 2 bags for $8 and they were the smaller size bags. Candy is expensive and it not tasting like it use to Good. I skipped on buying Halloween candy waiting for the sale to start tomorrow 50% off and I might buy a bag or two to freeze for later. Scary how much candy cost nowadays.

Confession I spent about $20 playing Powerball today hey it's 1 billion and a cheapskate has to be in that to win it. Yes, I know it might have been a waste of a good twenty. But to win 2nd prize I will be good with that 2nd prize on a billion dollar is a lot of money for a cheapskate like me. Scary to think about winning all that money but that's a scare I would not mind having.

Inflation, Stock Market, Crazy

                                                                     Hello Family.

What's a cheapskate/frugal person to do in this crazy time we call inflation, stock market losses and crazy people running around. I have to check my financial status more often then I want. Just to make sure that I am keeping my head above water financially. Going to the supermarket is crazy the entrance fee is $100 like you're going to a club only this club you need to get into because they have food.  When I go food shopping, I noticed that people are only buying the basics. They are buying also just the sales items. Long gone are the shopping carts full of food.

Also, the stock market is going crazy with it downs more then it's up. People have lost a lot of money because of it.  Including me. I am still keeping it cheap but even with my cheapness it's a challenge to live in New York and still save a dollar.

                     So how are you fairing in all this craziness when it come to your money?

October Already?

October already! I am not going to lie my focus has not been on money for the last couple of weeks. It's been on a personal matter. But I still look over my bills when they came. And watch those bill because I am finding a lot of mistakes the companies are making in their favor when it comes to payments. If you are not sure about a bill, call them up and fuss about it. Also see if they offer incentives for discounts in the future.

                       Every penny counts and that includes pennies you don't spend.

Can't Be Helped

One of the things that I realized is that you cannot be cheap/frugal with your health. Either you get health insurance and live or you take a chance with your life. I realized no matter how much I am a cheapskate on everything else I cannot be one when it comes to my health. Perfect example. I had a test done that test cost $11,000. That's right I said $11,000 it was a test I needed. I am waiting to see if my insurance will cover it. I am praying they will, but whatever they don't cover I have to pay it. Which I will be going on a payment plan if I have to pay this bill, and this is not the only one that is health related. 

But the point is no matter how much you save a medical issue will wipe all of that saving out. So always look for good medical insurance. Sometimes going cheap is not the way to go especially if it involves your health.

Can't Go Cheap

  Hello Family, Happy Sept 1st. How are you today? I realized as much as I love being a cheapskate, I cannot go cheap when it comes to medical. I have been having some medical issues and in order get it all corrected I have spent the money for testing, drugs and doctor's visits. Yes, I do have insurance, but they will only pay but so much.

To tell you the truth that's one area in my life that I do not mind spending money on. If' it's to prolong my life or help me get better, where do I sign the check. If you are no longer here because your were being cheap/frugal with your health what's the point. Life is to be enjoyed and being in good health is a part of all of that!

Taking A Chance

 Hello all well here's the story for the week. Do I take a chance and spend $10 on Mega million since the jackpot is a billion dollars! I spend $75-$100 a month playing lotto and maybe win $20 if I am luck and I said if. But to win a Billion dollars that's one heck of a win for $2. It's also a nice dream to have, you know I am going to spend the $10 to try and win who are we fooling here.

I have been trying to save money I am a Walgreens junkie and I like the coupons they offer. I went to get some things yesterday out of Walgreens had a coupon the total cost of all my items was 44 cents. Can you say I was happy Well I was😁. Anyway, the last thing that I have to do since I got a new car, and my old van is gone is sell my family house. It seems every time I try something else takes its place like a medical situation. But I am determined to get my house sold by Christmas. Wish me luck.

It's A Job

Happy 4th of July hope everybody had a safe and happy one.  Who every said that you can relax in retirement must have a lot of money. Because I am retired and it seems like I have another job and that's trying to keep a head of the bills, medical issues, repairs, personal issues. So much stuff it feels like a job to me. Being a cheapskate sometimes it's too much. There are just so many hours in the day that you can look for bargains. To be truthful I have not seen any that are worthwhile. Not to say that I have given up the each to save money Never! But with inflation it is a challenge and living in New York makes it a challenge times 2.

Where have all the bargains gone? Since we have had covid business seem to want double for products that are now smaller in size. All I can say is take one day and one dollar at a time and find out what your true values are when it comes to where and how you want to live your life and, on that journey, Life is short so enjoy it.

Laziness cost Me $$$

Being lazy cost you money. I am the perfect example of what I speak. I was to tired to cook yesterday so I got a King Kullen roasted chicken. Mind you I waited 45 minutes for the fresh ones to come out. When I looked at my bill this roasted chicken cost me $8.99 they use to be $5.99 last time I purchased one it was $6.99. I could not get over the fact that because my lazy self did not want to cook I paid $10 for a chicken when I could have easily purchased a cheap uncooked  chicken, some sides for that price. If I was lucky.

Me telling you all this is because being lazy cost us money. If you don't want to do something, you pay to get it done right. Wrong! If you can do it yourself then save the money and do it. I hate mowing my lawn, but it saves me $20 bucks every time I do it because that's what a gardener would cost me to do it. 

Anything that you can do to save you money do it. Especially with inflation at a all time high of 8%. In these trying time we have to make every and I mean every penny count and not be lazy.

Happy June 1th. It's almost summer time and the living is expensive. It's that nasty man called inflation. He has  made living expensive. It's hard to beat him even if you make good money. This nasty man called inflation is really putting  our frugal/cheapskate skills to the test. Heck I even had to take a refresher course  to sharpen my cheapskate skills because inflation is hitting me  like everybody else hard.

So what's a cheapskate to do. Here's some suggestions.

1. Go over all your banks, credit card, hospital statements to make sure your being charged correctly.  I find a lot of companies will either overcharge you or charge you for somebody else's services.

2 As far a food Walmart is even getting expensive and they were the go to guys for cheap eats. Look for mangers special's on everything especially meats. try finding alternative ways to get your food .Buying into shared  bulk purchasing  with friends and neighbors. Look for things that you can eat cheap beans, oatmeal, pancakes, bagels. Who says you have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. I eat breakfast food for dinner twice a week. If you need to see if in your area they are offering food boxes and if you really need it use the food pantries in your area.

3. Shelter now that's the only place besides food I try and get my bills paid on time. Homeless is not an option if you can get your rent reduced go for it. If you own a home, look for ways to reduce the cost. I look at  programs they offer here in New York to reduce my property taxes, I look into programs that are being offered to reduce my energy cost, water bills. Anything I can get a reduction on I go for it. I might not qualify for it but I still try. To me every penny I save counts and keeps me from being homeless.

4. Transporation with gas $10 a gallon it's cheaper to take public transportation, walking, biking. They say that it can get expensive to uber everywhere but if it cheaper then you driving then uber it is.

I know these are just some basic tips to beat inflation and they are some of the things that I do . What are you doing to try to beat that nasty inflation man to death.

Memorial Day Weekend

  It's the weekend Well almost. Hi family with the weekend and family coming all at once what are we doing to save money and still be able to entertain our family for the holidays. Here's some suggestions from a cheapskate.

The norm is barbeque hamburgers, hotdogs and steaks but with the price of food. This can be expensive. Look at what you already have in your freezer that you need to cook and can make a holiday meal with. Hey that pot roast looks like a holiday meal. These chicken legs will taste good with some sauce on them. You get the point. This will save you money on buying food that's already overpriced.

Decoration $1.25 store has a few nice things. Also the colors are red, white and blue. See if you have any leftover decorations form other holiday events that would work just right with this years holiday event. Also party city and 99 cents stores might have a few things that you can purchase all for on clearance.

Don't be ashamed to tell your guest to bring something to the party. If they can not cook like me I brink the drinks or paper cups, plates etc,

Let the music play buy setting up a boom box if you still have one. Getting music off your iPad have it set up with speakers, What about using that stereo system for once that you have collecting dust in the corner. Turn it on and play those albums you have sitting with it.

Ask your friends and family if they have an inflatable pool, games. buy balloons and other things that the kids can do to have fun with out the cost. I have seen the dollar store carrying a lot of holiday items and things that the kids can play with during the event. all for $1.25.

             The most important thing is to have fun enjoy your company and save that $$

Happy May this month we need to flex our saving muscles. This is the month that you set your budget to saving more spend less. How do we do that.? First you need to make a budget to see what you're spending your money on. Shelter, transportation, energy, food, medical expenses, clothing, debt. Once the budget is made now you know how much everything cost. (YouTube has a lot of videos of how to do a simple budget) Now the hard part how much are you making money wize. Are you making more or less than what your spending each month. Once you get your budget in order. Find creative ways to cut back. You don't need new clothes, name brand food, name brand stuff. Good old fashion basic stuff will do and they last longer and taste better.

I know our lives are all different from each other, but you can do this you can flex your saving muscles and start to find ways to save and cut back. So that you can fund your retirement, pay off your bills, go on a mini-vacation. Heck get the repairs done to your home you have been putting off because you did not have the money. I know I have been there and done it.

What I am doing right now is lowing my credit card purchase amounts. Finding out what I can use credit card  points for. Looking over my car and home insurance. Looking over all the bills that come into my house to see if I need it or can I cancel it to save money. I have  fear factor on my side. The fear of being old  hungry and homeless that's what keeps me motivated and  trying to save as much money as I can because you never know.

I know it's been a while. To be trustful I needed a break because there is only so much you can say about being a cheapskate. That I have not said already. But I wanted to share this with you. If you're a cheapskate/frugal person, what methods have you used to reduce your income taxes. I cannot move to a state that has no state taxes that is out. I have taken all the deduction that I can.  I get cheated when it comes to property taxes. I pay $16,000 in property taxes but can only claim $10,000. So, I am losing out on $6000 to claim.  That sucked!

I almost cried being a cheapskate when I found out the amount of money I had to pay Uncle Sam this year. It was a lot. So the questions  is what do you do when it comes to paying income tax and your deductions if your a frugal/cheapskate person like me?

Not The Place

                                                                 Hello Family..

When I say not the place, I mean places like New York. which I live in Los Angeles, Chicago, Hawaii. San Francisco you get the point these places are not for a cheapskate/frugal person. I don't care how much you say you can make it here in New York. Living here and being a cheap/frugal  person  is a tough job. I am trying but the one step I take toward being a cheapskate the city puts me 2 steps backs. For example, Property taxes here are crazy expensive. So, I called to find out if the dept of finance is giving any kind of discounts on property taxes. Yes, but you have to meet certain criteria 's first which I don't. Let's not talk about food It's not cheap. Neither is heating, transportation, insurance. It's isn't easy being frugal in an expensive city like New York.

So before you try to rush here to live think about this.

1.How much money do you have to spend because you're going to need a lot of it just to have a decent lifestyle living here.

2. We are not too big on coupons meaning it's hard to find coupons in our sales papers.

3. Car are expensive, Insurance and even public transportation is not cheap anymore.

4. There is a lot of stress living in New York. Besides the expense you never know what you're going to run into good and bad.

5 Entertainment is a pretty penny. Yes there are some inexpensive places to go for entertainment but what are the areas like that you have to go for the entertainment.

I love New York but it's a challenge to be a cheap/frugal person here without the right amount of money or job to support living in an expensive city such as New York.
