Shocking!

                                                        Hello Cheap Cheetah Family 

Well, I was shocked today. I got a medical statement saying how much my medical expenses cost for the month of November it was a whopping $4500. The insurance company paid $3000 of that. Mind you that $4500 is a month because I have some medical issues that are expensive. If I had to pay that it would cost me $150 a day which I don't have. So my questions to you with high medical expense how one can still maintain a cheapskate/frugal lifestyle and pay the bills. Living in New York is expensive as is but being sick is crazy expensive. I read in a book that said it cost you about $100 a day to stay above ground if you're sick more like $200 a day.

I always say to you try and keep some kind of medical insurance because you might be healthy now, but you never know when you're going to get sick and need that insurance. Even if you have to sacrifice something else to pay for it in the long run it's worth it. To have a piece of mind.

 It hard being a cheapskate now adays but I am trying. Have a blessed and happy Holiday.

It's that time of year again where the banks are giving out free stuff. For example, my local banking is giving its customers free calendars for 2024, plastic clips to seal your potato chips bags, key chains, free coffee, cookies and sometimes they offer $25 gift cards if you enter a drawing. Hey, I say whatever you can get for free since your money is in that bank and that's what they are probably using to give you the stuff they claim is free anyway.

So how was your thanksgiving? I hate to say that I was wasteful this year. I had a ham that was a few years old. My cheapskate self   cooked it. That ham was so dry I had to throw it away. I hate to waste food, but you couldn't eat the ham. My point being we are buying food because it's on sale but if the food goes to waste because we don't eat it. It's wasting money ether way. You might have saved money on the purchase but wasted it if you never use it. So, try and purchase what you know you're going to need withing a set time frame and save money doing that. Only my suggestion.

There is nothing like scary information. I was watching a YouTube program about how the middle class is almost phased out because of the high inflation and that more people are homeless and hungry than ever before. especially here in New York where living her you have to make over $100,000 a year and that just putting you in the lower middle class not the middle class.  Now that's scary. When I need motivation I watch a program like  the rising cost of inflation it gives me a kick in the boot when it comes to getting back on the cheapskate wagon. What's your motivation?

Thanksgiving Already

Happy Pre-Thanksgiving. I can't believe that's thanksgiving coming up so soon. To be truthful I am not even ready for it. Last time I paid the club price of walking out of a grocery store it cost me $130.00. Just for the basic food items. It has gotten so that amount is not shocking me like it normally would. It's like the norm now for groceries. I am afraid  I might be losing my cheapskate ways because of the crazy prices that I am forced to spend just to live a life that's not even luxury. 

As much as I try and be a cheapskate it's getting harder and harder to save that dollar. Espically, if you want to enjoy your life while you still can. I find myself saying forget it and buying what I want without thinking about the price. Even thought I have medical bills to think about  paying among other bills. I am sorry this has became a rant instead of me sharing my cheapskate ways. I get like this over the holidays. Where I throw money cautions out the window and just spend a little more then I should. Do you get like that sometimes?

Wasteful

Happy Halloween, This is not my moth when it comes to saving money and I will tell you why. I am very wasteful when it comes to food. I find myself making food to save money then I spend money to order out. So the food I have already cooked goes to waste while  I eat the ordered food up. Because when I order food they seem to give me enought food to last me for 2-3 days. I hate wasting food since it's so expensive. Don't get me started on having things that I like to eat or when I get on a food kick. I am on a mixed nut kick right now. Where I have to have mixed nuts and they cost like $5-7  for a small can. I have thrown my cheapskate mindset out the window because of my food kick. I know it's crazy right?

As far as being wasteful what I am doing to save money or try and make a little extra is that I am reading about what banks are giving the better interest rates. I have seen where interest rates have went up to 55 which my present bank was offering. So I  closed down some of my accounts that were only getting 3% and opened accounst that were getting me 5%. which I was hoping that  the interest rates would go back up to 16% I know whishful thinking on my part.

so for this halloween i have not purchase one bag od candy. have you seen how expensive candy is. i overheard som ladies talking about purchaing candy for halloween at the dollor tee or family dollar store. Which is a good idea espically if your having a holloween party or you just want to have something to give to the trick or treater this year.

Water

Happy October 1th. How is everybody today? Well, me not so good. We had a lot of rain in the last couple of days in New York. Let me tell you water damage to a basement or home is a cheapskate's worst nightmare. Here's why first you have to clean up all that water if you can. Then you have to inspect the damage. If you're lucky you can clean it up the water yourself. If not you have to call someone in to help you clean it up. Meaning it will cost you. Which when I call water cleanup crews, they were not cheap. Si I invested in a shopvac which will help you clean up excessive water in your home. Which the shopvac was not cheap but worth it.  I hate when I get water in my basement, but I have been lucky to be able to clean it up myself with the help of the supplies that I carry. But it still cost me in the long run buying the supplies that are needed to clean up a mess like water damage.  Which my homeowner's insurance won't cover taking since they are always talking about water damage is an act of god. Really???? 

Also, you have to think about the things that you have to throw out and replace that cost money to. So, yes water damage is a cheapskate's nightmare too much money to get it fixed, stuff replaced and the work that goes into it to clean it. t

Money Stress

How are you today? I realized that not only bills could bring you money stress but not getting enough money can bring it on to. Here's what I am talking about. I am trying to liquate a lot of my collections from 5-10 years ago. I used to collect barbie dolls and other things like G.I Joes. Now getting older I am trying to sell off my collection. Which is not easy I realized that a lot of people are like me cheapskates. Which I am not knocking it I respect it.

Now this is where the stress comes in trying to liquate stuff to make money for your bills and other things that you might need in the future. It's a stressful process. Also, it seems that when it rains it pours when it comes to bills all coming in at the same time. I personally hate paying bills but what can we do about it. Got any suggestions? I know not pay them is an option but that's not for me. I like a roof over my head, heat and running water (lol)   

Other then my money stress things are overall expensive but what can we do put try to find cheaper alternative that best work for us. If you have any cheapskate money saving suggestions I am all ears.

Happy Labor Day Weekend

the last time we spoke was back in July. I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to wish my Family a safe and Happy Labor Day. I know with thins so expensive can you say food. Labor might be on the lean side this year when it comes to cookout and picnics. I can understand.

As for me Cheap Cheetah I am doing the free stuff for the weekend. Like the free outdoor concerts, walking in the parks. seeing if they will have a fireworks or a car show close to me free stuff. You know I like free or close to it. For food I am only buying what's on sale or if I have to pay full retail, I am looking for the best quality at the lowest price. Which is almost impossible to do. But that's what makes it fun it's like going on a hunt to save money.

All Them Pennies

Happy June. How are you today? Did you read where this couple found like 1 million pennies in their fathers' attic. I read that story. They were shocked to say the least and these pennies were supposed to be old one. The collectable kind. The guy was selling them on offer-up which is a website like ebay. I guess the family didn't want to call a local coin collector to see if l he would take them off his hands.

 Now if it was me being a cheapskate and I found all those pennies. I would first find me something good to eat and drink on the cheap. Then I would get a bucketful and each day I would investigate the pennies on the internet to see if they were valuable. If not, I would roll the pennies up and take them to the bank. No CoinStar Machine for me with their expensive fees.    One million pennies should be valued at around $10,000. Which is a nice sum. I know I could think of a lot of things to do with $10,000 Can't you?

Happy Dance

 I am doing a happy happy dance this week. First when I got up yesterday, I felt great I wanted to sing and dance which I did. There was no reason behind it just feeling good. I wish I could have that feeling everyday. Also, I got 5 bucks in the mail my incentive for taking a survey about Health. The survey states to fill it out and mail it back I get $20 bucks. You know I am mailing it Cheap Cheetah needs that $20. The survey took me less then 5 minutes to complete.  The best part is they give you a self-address stamped envelope saving me from putting a stamp on it. yea!

 I want to wish you a Happy Memorial Day. I hope that you will be happy and safe.  Yesterday I went food shopping It's almost like a horror show now because when you get to the cashier, and she tells you how much your food bill is you want to scream. Anyway, I saw where the store  I was shopping in had a family pack of chicken for 69c a pound. So, a pack cost me about $5-6 dollars, and I could feed my whole family for a week for the cost of a one burger.  As I was shopping this woman had about 10 packs of chicken that was on sale in her cart besides the other meats that were a bargain. People are stocking up when the prices are good. Because if you go out to eat it's like $ 25-35 dollars for two meals that are probably not that good. So, you start thinking to yourself  I can make this cheaper at home and it will taste better. Well I think that anyway. So, my thoughts for you today is stock up on sales item especially meats and make it at home it's cheaper.

Be Careful

Just wanted to give you a bit of Cheap Cheetah Advice. Make sure that you check your credit report yearly. It's free from the credit agencies like Equifax, Transunion & Experian. The reason I say this is because there is so much credit card fraud going around. Especially after Covid hit us. People opening accounts in your name. Stealing your identity, it's crazy. Everywhere I turn the banks, credit cards companies, even the grocery stores are asking for extra security measures. So that they can make sure it's you.

That's the last think a cheapskate like me or you for that matter needs is for someone to steal our identity and run up bills that we are not aware of. It's heck trying to straighten everything out.  Put a freeze on your credit reports and accounts if you can and pay attention. Read all your statements and double check them. Thief's nowadays are pretty good at stealing your money besides other things.   Be preventive of Identification Thief not a victim. Just a word of advice.

I Am Trying

Happy Mother's Day. I know it's Sunday, but I wanted to get the jump on things. I am trying to make my $1 a day challenge. I took back my bottles that added up to $2.60 cents. You know I was happy. I am also doing surveys. I'm even trying to write an e book.  I am open for anything that will make me money.

When they say food is expensive it is I went to the grocery store today my food in total cost me $160.00. I didn't get that much meat if any. I started to ask the cashier if they were hiring because if I have to pay that much for food I might as well work there. I might get a discount.

This is a time not to be wasteful with food, gas, clothing anything that you think you cannot use more than once. Newsflash you can. Somethings you can't but most of the things you can use a second or even a third time. Or find cheaper alternatives for what you need. It's time to tighten our cheapskate belts and get to work on saving some money.

Can I Do It?

I know everybody preaches emergency funds and why you should have one. They are speaking the truth. First what's an emergency fund?  It's a place that you put extra money just in case you have an emergency. Like a flat tire, dental bill, vet bill, housing problem, childcare problem, etc. Well anyway I know a lot of us do not have the extra money for an emergency fund. I know I don't, but I am challenging myself to try and come up with 75 cents a day which adds up to $22.50 a month. I know it might not be much but it's a start toward building an emergency fund.

Some of you say it's easy to make 75 cents a day. Ok then let me know what you are doing because I am losing this challenge already and I only started on Sunday (LOL). If you can save $1 a day even better my point to you is this saving a little something beats not saving nothing.

                        So, who's with me let's do this challenge 75 cents a day or bust!!

I Got Robbed!!!

                                                                     Hello Family

I got robbed by Atlantic City. Well, I took a few days to relax, eat and gamble but the casino had other ideas, so they robbed me of my money without offering even offering me any promotions for the loss. Now if that's not robbing somebody legally, I don't know what is. Also, I found out that the percentages on the slots are in the casinos favor. For example, if I play a $1 and win on the machine, I win 80cents. That's not a win in my books that's a loss. I also found out that some combinations that you should win on you get nothing.

I know as a cheapskate I should not be gambling at all but sometimes you need a rest from saving money and just have some fun. Even if it means spending some money to do it. I learned that life is too short to always focus on saving money. You are here to live your life to the fullest so why not take some money and just do you. Don't get me wrong I love to save and get bargains, but I like to enjoy myself to. As the saying goes a brinks truck does not ride with you to the cemetery or something like that.

Did you know that April is Financial Literacy Month? I got this for you a basic map of what to do this month to start saving money. Things like make a budget, build an emergency fund, pay off debt, save for retirement & last keep track of credit score. For me I will do you one better.

First Save the coins this month they add up to dollars later, Reuse what you can. I wash and re-use my aluminum foil. It's saves me from buying more foil when the roll runs out. 

There is no shame in being holy with your clothing. Don't buy new clothes use the ones that you have and if they have holes in them make rags out of them.  If you can still wear your holy clothing around the house, do it. I have a tee shirt with holes in the back of it. I wear it around the house all the time.

                                 These are just some of my money saving suggestions.

Rolled It

                                                     Hello, My Cheap Cheetah Family

I rolled it this weekend. Meaning my coins, I came out with 30 bucks. Which is pretty good for me. Don't sleep on coins. Once you start collecting them you get hooked. Now with your coins you can pay a bill a small one that is. Buy some food, put toward your emergency fund or better yet you can invest the money into an individual stock like I did. I invested in Kellogg's stock for about $25.  I told myself every time I have saved coins that's where the money was going.  So that way I can invest a small amount and maybe make a profit on it.

I also started to think about taking the $30 in coins and trying to turn that into $500. By finding cheap or free stuff and selling it online. But with inflation and people not buying like they used to. Selling items on eBay and other marketplaces was not an option for me. Besides the fees from those places would eat up my profits pretty quickly.

But the main point is don't sleep on coins because that's money. That can come in handy when you need it. Like I always say every penny counts and it really does.

Foolish Me

 How are you today? Me I am very foolish and here is why. I live in New York which you know is expensive to begin with. But the medical bills that I get are crazy. The basic living Bills I get are crazy. My energy bill went up $50 bucks. Also, my property taxes went up a couple hundred for the year. I am foolish because I am a cheapskate and no matter how much I try to save. I save with one hand, but it gets taken with expenses with the other hand. Has that happened to you? I am sorry to say living in certain cities makes it hard to be a frugal cheapskate.

I am sorry if I am complaining I am not it's just that living in an expensive city you have to put more effort in being a frugal/cheapskate. I have notice that when I get the coupons off the internet say for Walgreens after I have used them 2-3 times. They stop sending then to me. What do they have a limit of the number of coupons you can use in their store? 

So, my family of frugal/cheapskate do you also find it hard to save money where you live?

Car Loans

Hello Family

Just wanted to share with you something that I found out today. I have a car loan that was costing me $475 a month. I know that's a lot of money per month for a used car at that. But I needed a car and right after Covid-19 I started looking for one. I found new cars were scarce and used cars were selling for the price of a new ones. Anyway, I needed a car and I wanted to pay cash, but the car dealership convinced me to take a loan and I would get $3,000 off the purchase price if I took a loan. I know foolish of me. Anyway, I called the loan company today to pay off the car loan. The bank that I got the loan from told me that they were charging me $3.95 a day in interest. Which adds up to $90 a month. No wonder my car loan never went down from all those months that I was paying on it.

I told the loan rep that I don't even get that kind of interest on my regular saving accounts. Having a loan of any kind is crazy. If you have a loan and can pay it off, you are not only saving on all the interest you would be paying. You will get a piece of mind knowing that you can use that money to save or purchase things that are really need. The last time I purchased a car was 30 years ago and it cost me $12,000 used and I paid

Beware of the loans you are signing and if you can try and save up and pay cash it's cheaper in the long run.

Happy February so the goal of this short month for me anyway is to stop giving lotto all my money. I told you last year I spent over $1500 in playing that game taking a chance to win very little. Also, since I live in New York we are not big on coupons meaning we don't get them like other states. So coupon hunting is out for me. But I am doing surveys again to see if I can get some gift cards to use to buy food with.

I know this might be a lot to take on but if you get New York Bills like I do then I should have slipped back into my cheap cheetah ways a long time ago.

 So how are you saving making money for February?

That Much!!

                                                        Hello My Cheap Cheetah Family

That's my look last night after I went over my yearly totals of household expense. We spend so much money I wanted to cry.  I am not talking just basic living expenses I am talking credit card expenses, taxes on houses, repair bills, car insurance, medical copayments. It was a lot of money we spent. Some was needed and some was just unnecessary. The reason I needed to know about where the money went last year is because I am getting older and I need to start and stay on a budget. My income from my pension and social security will force me to be very tight with my money. Also, I have to confess I fell off the cheapskate wagon. Now I not only have to get back on I have to ride it until the wheels fall off of it and then put the wheels back on and continue to ride it.

Things are so darn high with inflation eating out is expensive, grocery shopping is expensive. It's hard for a cheapskate to find anything free anymore. Got any suggestions would love to hear them.

Happy New Year! Is inflation killing your money like it is mine? Who would have thought that a dozen of eggs would cost $5-7 dollars. Or a tub of butter is $10.  Is food crazy or what. Forget eating meat anytime soon. Unless it's on a manager's special and marked down a bit. that's how I look for my meats nowadays.

If inflation has not taught, you how to be creative with the money. You will be. I take inflation and prices being crazy has a lesson we can all learn. Inflation is here for who knows how long so we can either let it beat us or we can try and beat it. It's been beating the cheapskate up in me for a minute, but I am going to turn that around in 2023. You will see.
